The 15-day state of emergency that was put in place on April 12, 2020, expired yesterday, April 27, 2020. By law, a state of emergency can be put in place for a 15-day maximum.
Due to the circumstances of the virus with the DHEC identifying more than 5,490 cases in the State of South Carolina along with 174 deaths due to the virus, Governor McMaster declared his newest Executive Order 2020-29 which declares a state of emergency that includes:
- Closures of school's for the remainder of the school year
- Elections will be postponed or rescheduled
- Protection for first responders
- Transportation waivers
- Authorization for enforcement to do anything deemed necessary to keep peace and good order during this time
